2019 Digital Innovation & Ideathon Competition


Ideathon™ is a weekend-long competition full of fun and innovation! This is where students take their ideas and build them into an app – no coding skills necessary. You will have the opportunity to create digital solutions to challenges that arise on your campus. This is your chance to make a change and get the chance to win some prizes and recognition for your devotion to make a difference for your college.

National Competition

The team that creates the winning application from each school wins a local prize and will also be eligible to win a $10,000 national prize, awarded at the annual Kurogo Conference.

Note: Cypress College is the first community college to compete in this competition


Team Members: The competition is open to all enrolled Cypress College students. 10 teams of 3 - 5 students will be eligible to compete in the local competition.

Team Leader: Each team must have at least one team member who will serve as the main contact for the team, will submit the idea, keep the team informed. And serve as the spokesperson on competition Day.

Degrees: This competition is inclusive to all majors- No coding skills necessary

• Challenge/Problem: There is no way to tell what parking lot has available parking spots

Program Schedule

Location: 1st floor of Business Building - Room 107 ( Future Innovation Hub)

Wednesday evening, April 10, 2019

6 pm Students get a free step by step training on how to build an app.

Friday, April 12, 2019

  • 5 pm – 5:30 pm Doors open and registration at Business Building
  • 5:30 pm – 6 pm Welcome address
  • 6 pm Students start working
  • 9 pm Students and staff are dismissed

Saturday, April 13, 2019

  • 8 am – 10 am Doors open
  • 9 am – 12 pm Students continue working on-site
  • 12 pm – 1:00 pm - Sandbox access is restricted and students prepare to present
  • 2 pm – 5 pm Student presentations, judging, and awards, Complex room 216

Post Competition

First place winner’s app gets submitted to compete against other universities in the nation for a national prize of $10,000, announced at the Kurogo Conference at MIT in June 2019


1st Place Local Prize: $2,000,
and will also be eligible to win a national prize: $10,000
